Book Binding and press
Book binding press DIY
Book binding books
This is some further work I've done on book binding since my first attempt at the process, and have been making a significant development. This development was thanks to a home made book press myself and my uncle had made to see if it could help and save the use of heavy books to hold the text block down. The materials we gathered were two chopping boards the correct size for A5 journals, washers, wing nuts and bolt screws. I acquired my list from looking at a video tutorial done by sea lemon on Youtube and from it I created the press.
The use of the tool has significantly improved the books in terms of the text block spine glueing and final construction of the cover. One other improvement is in the sticky back plastic as up until last week the covers were slightly bubbled and crumpled but thanks to practice and tutorial guidance I was able to smooth it out with a plastic rule when applied to the cover before applying the text block.
I tried the method on a stamp pattern of Yin and Yang that I did for college work done using Photoshop and Illustrator and a Paris themed cover for my upcoming trip with college. The paper has changed also, from 90GSM paper to parchment paper both gold and white for an old age look after several attempts at tea staining the text block pages.
This was posted on my tumblr blog to see what my followers thought of my work and illustrations that I'd used.
