Packaging development
During the years on the Level 2 art and design course at the college I attended we were given the chance to design some packaging inspired by the work and sights that we saw during our trip to London back in December 2015. This would be piece to enter a competition for the company whopped for our trips and there would be prize money for the winner. My packaging project was inspired by the Shoes exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum as they showed many creatively designed shoes and processes. The second inspiration came from a trip to Hamley's toyshop to gain further ideas for typography and target audience it was there I decided to target my packaging at kids. Upon return to college I began my plans for the packaging, and had came up with the idea of doing the packaging in the shape of a shoe that would open to reveal the game inside, but instead of a typical lift up lid I wanted the packaging to open up like a fold out game board.
My original plan was to have the packaging become the game itself but it was then my tutors told me that we were doing the packaging only not the product. Never the less, I wanted to stick with the open out packaging idea and explored different materials such as card and foam board. Many nets of the packaging were designed and refined to create a final back to back packaging of two shoes the shape of which near resembled tower bridge. I even incorporated digital illustration work and abstract art to help the links to London such as the lights that shone at night in the city and how they flyby in moving vehicles.
Final piece
Influence of game name
Idea of packaging layout
Typography logo experiment/ final
The name of the game that I would be advertising came from the influence of the shoes exhibitions purpose and theme, to guess their significances, and so I named this game after one of my child hood favourites guess who? however given this was shoe themed I named my product Guess Shoe? as a play on words. The final piece worked as I'd intended and even showed the image of the proposed project and used the significant inspirations and references. I'd used textile based pockets as the story space for the packaging and this showed the significance to actual shoes. The final logo was done using metallic paper as it stood out against the rest of the packaging when added to the digital enhancement.
