For a part of my College FMP project I've created an art of book featuring my story of The Artist and The Mermaid which was one of the key inspirations and starting points for my Landscape Earth from Sky project using and underwater theme. The book pages were created using Indesign as that was the recommended program to use as told to me by students from Manchester Metropolitan University. I had originally intended to use case binding in this book project however after printing I discovered that it created a booklet and therefore would need a method that would accompany this particular book. The method in question was Staple binding a method typically used in booklets and more intriguingly comic books.
Before finally binding the book I printed a cover for the book which was then pierced by the awl to create the binding holes which had to be the width of the staple. This cover was coated with sticky back plastic to look like a real book cover for a comic book. The book was then binned together with staples and the ends were folded down using the end of a pencil to hold the book in place. Later however I discovered that there was some spelling mistakes within the cover and was printed and rebound, thankfully the book wasn't damaged so it was still used to feature in the college end of year show.
What this book told me was that there was a way to bind some of my comics that I create for AWAH or even for my own purpose so I would later pursue this for my own use.
