To diverse my illustration portfolio, I decided to redesign the logo for the art and heritage centre that I volunteer at on weekends and sometimes during the week. I asked one of the trustees Karen if it was okay and she told me that they would be redesigning Art with a Hearts website and thought that a new logo was a perfect idea. We therefore sat down and talked about possible ideas that incorporated the heritage and art themes in the logo design whilst trying to stay true to the original logo in terms of shape and colours.
Original logo.

I had a few suggestions such as the inclusion of a pocket watch, to represent heritage but that was later replaced by a magnifying glass. This was inspired by the wall decorations, done by another volunteer Rachel. Later I digitally enhanced the first logo design which used two paint brushes as an arch above the arts and heritage side of the logo taken up using the magnifying glass. Later analysis of the first logo design indicated that the addition of the heritage side of the logo needed refinement, and so we decided on the introduction of the Altrincham clocktower and the art brushes in the holes in the logo and the colours in the paint blots.

I worked on this refinement and used the colours of the logo into the blots, of paint whilst the letters later evolved into bold colours. However later upon reviewing the new logo we needed to determine what it would look like in black and white if it was printed onto acrylic in Fab Lab printing. Plus the adjustment, of the magnifying glass over the clocktower to magnifying a section of the tower. So taking this into consideration, I did another piece both in colour and black and white to see its effectiveness. Upon learning ways to add to brush presets in Photoshop I created  blue patterns, for the website of the redesign.

I showed this to Karen to see what she thought and she said that it helped to confirm, what it would look like if printed on acrylic and it seems that it lost some sense of colours in the paint blots, so it seemed further refinement would be needed for a further design.
